About Us

Horizon Academy is a community-led organization creating opportunities for youth to learn, connect, and thrive. Rooted in the Ethiopian, Eritrean, and broader Black communities of the Greater Toronto Area, we believe every young person deserves access to spaces where they can grow academically, physically, creatively, and socially.

Our Approach

We believe meaningful change starts with community. Horizon Academy takes a grassroots, community-led, and culturally-sensitive approach to creating programs that respond to the needs, interests, and experiences of the people we serve. We bring together education, physical activity, culture, and connection to create welcoming spaces where youth and families can learn, participate, and thrive.

Learn. Move. Create. Connect.

Academic Enrichment

We provide accessible, low-cost tutoring for children and youth across Toronto Public Library locations. Our individualized and small-group sessions meet students where they are, helping build academic skills, confidence, and a stronger foundation for success, regardless of where they’re starting from.

Physical Literacy

We create accessible opportunities for youth to move, play, and build confidence through soccer, and other physical activities. By offering low-cost and community-based programming, we help reduce barriers to participation and ensure more youth have the opportunity to be active and thrive.

Arts & Culture

We create welcoming opportunities for youth to explore creativity, celebrate culture, and connect with others. Through paint nights, nature walks, book clubs, language classes, cooking classes, live music, and more, we make space for self-expression, cultural connection, and shared experiences.

Community Connection

Through social outings, community events, group activities, leadership opportunities, speakeasies, and shared experiences, we connect people across experiences and backgrounds while creating opportunities to learn from, support, enjoy, and celebrate one another while feeling a sense of belonging.
